Creating A Wish List


 I'm always trying new things to see if they will work. Apparently what might work for someone else might not work for me and vise versa. So this morning I added the Wish List to my daily routine. I will keep you updated on whether it works for me or not. You should give it a try too!  :)

Here's are the first 2 things that I put on my list.

1. A really big house
2. A really big lottery win

Lol... not sure what the benefits of day dreaming about "stuff" might be,  but it was fun for a few minutes.

Now Here Is a Scary Thought

 Did it ever occur to you that if you don't keep up with your basic routine of relaxation every day, meditating, taking long walks, eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep etc... that you are  increasing the risk of a relapse. You lifestyle has to completely change permanently. Meds didn't work for me... and the minute stress wasn't weighing over me, I fell right back into my old ways!!

What Do You Know About Anxiety??

I have read a lot on the topic, but find that you have to be reminded several times. Every day I start my morning with reading. I love Sarah Ban Breathnack.  Each day I start  I'm reading using one of her books... It's called  "Wanting More"... Apparently wanting more out of life isn't such a bad thing. Really didn't see that coming. I thought that "wanting more" was what got me into this in the first place.

Today's Gratitude Journal Fail

Each day, I try to come up with 5 things to be grateful for. It shouldn't be that hard, but there are going to be times, when your mood is so bad that you will be lucky if you can come up with two... and one of them will be something that you give thanks for... every single day.

So, don't beat yourself up over it. Tomorrow you might come up with 6 things to put on your list. Yes, today my brain wasn't in the mood.  Here's what I came up with...

1. It's raining today, so I won't have to water everything in the garden.
2. I have a healthy family.
3. Both hubby and daughter have the day off!

Guess it could have been worse lol. Here's hoping for some new ones tomorrow!!

Who knows, I might be able to go back to the journal later today and add a few more items!! Here's hoping ;)

How To Stay Happy This Week

It is so easy to slip and fall back into old patterns. Do you think that you can pull it off... for 7 days straight?? Why isn't this easier lol?? I thought that the older I got... the easier or maybe smarter I would become... and then I would know how to be happy without even trying!

Just Do It... Stop Worrying

 It's a lot harder than I ever imagined it would be. I managed to pin down (I think)  when I first began to worry needlessly. That was the first thing I thought that I should do.  And as for my title... it's funny how other people think that THAT'S all there is to it.

 I hate to think of all the minutes that I have wasted in my life due to worrying. And did it do any good?  Not a second of it.

Would an Anxiety Support Group Help??

 Another one of those... why didn't I think of this??  Yes, the idea came straight out of a book.  I don't know if you have tried using a psychologist to help with your disorder, but they are incredibly expensive and even with insurance, I tend to run out about half way through the year. ;(  What good is insurance if it isn't there for you??

That's when the next paragraph suggested looking in your own area for a support group. And be sure that it isn't a group where everyone simply moans about what is going on in their life. You need interaction with others granted, but you want feedback too!!

Are You Over-Doing It?

A lot of us who are dealing with anxiety issues are perfectionists. We are never satisfied with a to-do list of 5 things. We have this need to add more items to it. We just aren't working hard enough. Sound familiar?

And if you try to take on more things than are possible, none of them ever get completed. You have no idea how many projects that I have started, but have never seen the light of day. I'm either too busy to get to it, or it's not good enough and somebody might think that it's stupid.

The list that I'm looking at right now is for cleaning the house. It's Monday and that means that floors need to be washed. That takes next to no time and when I'm done, technically I'm finished.  Have to admit that I usually look for something else that needs tidying up, but no stress. If I don't want to, I don't have to!

My Stressless Way Of Getting Ready To Bake Cookies

 **This might drive some people crazy because I have to admit, it does make for a messy kitchen.

However lol... if I'm going to bake in the afternoon, I like to have all of my ingredients and utensils sitting on the counter at my fingertips in the morning. It's just less stressful that way lol... for me at least. It's just one step that I don't have to do when it comes time to put together the cookie dough.

I also use this idea for other things that I do... laundry for example.  I tend to sort that into chunks too... It's something about realizing that I  might be missing an ingredient, or I don't know where the fabric softener is that just drives me crazy.  If I can remove just a little stress from my life each day... :)

Wondering Where My Anxiety Issues Came From??

 Did you ever wonder why just about everything seems to upset you these days??  It developed over time... it just didn't arrive one morning and moved in permanently.  I know that mine started when my nephew died. He was born 3 months after my own son was born and my sister and I thought that they would be "brothers" for a lifetime. It didn't happen. He  had inherited a genetic disease and was gone before he was 4 months old. That is when I realized that bad things could happen and there was nothing that I could do about it.  Sadly I didn't realize that if I didn't take care of the situation then and there, I would suffer for the rest of my life.  That was 38 years ago and I have good days and bad days... most of then thanks to relapses... all because doctors simply want to put you on meds for the rest of your life. Didn't work for me and now I'm trying something different.

Does Your Library Carry This Book?

 Mine didn't but, I was able to have them bring it in from a larger library. It's called... "In a Different Voice" by Carol Gilligan. In the book she talks about how we change as we get older. What ever happened to that teen I used to be?  I was afraid of nothing. I took care of myself and I loved my life!!  It certainly made me what to talk to her again. She would think that I have become such a wuss!  Can't have that lol!

Reading has become part of my morning ritual and from what I have been reading, it has to continue or I could find myself right back where I started.

When Was the Last Time??

There are going to be good days and there are going to be bad days. If this one is shaping up to be a bad one, I have something for you to try. For  play time today we are going to doodle. See how long you can do it before you get bored!! Set  timer for 5 minutes and see if you can stick with it. For some of us, it's going to be hard but stick with it... just let your mind float. There is nothing you need to be doing and no where you need to be.

Sometimes All You Need Is Someone To Talk To

 Some of us don't like to talk to people about what is going on in our lives, but sometimes it really works. I still remember talking to a grief counselor after my sister died in childbirth. In this day in age, woman aren't supposed to die bringing a new life into this world, but it happened and I could not get over it. It was not until all of it came out while talking to my doctor one afternoon. She asked if I would be interested in seeing a woman she knew, who counseled people dealing with deaths.

It took weekly visits for a few months and all I did was talk about how I felt about losing my sister and the anger that I felt. Thanks to this woman, I can now think about my sister and even talk about her without falling apart. Sometimes all you need is someone to talk to...

A No Stress Day

Yesterday was a No Stress Day for us!!  Hubby had the day off and we had errands which turned into lunch out... It was awesome. But, that meant that there was a lot of work in the garden that had been neglected.

Trust me... head out to a garden that is calling your name and you have no time to allow your thoughts to go to places you don't want them to go!

And then a nice cool shower isn't half bad either.  Stay busy and you are in control of your mind!  When was the last time that you had a NO STRESS DAY??  If you can't remember, I think that you are due! :)

It Doesn't Take Much to Undo All The Progress

 I won't go into details about what just happened,  but just wanted to point out that you are going to have days like this too. One step forward and three back. At least that is how it feels at the moment. But, I turned to my meditation practice, closed the door and did my best. Okay, not as good as yesterday but I managed.

I also have my books beside me. I think that it is time to do a bit of reading. I just started "Beyond Anxiety and Phobia... for the second time. Here's hoping something will jump out at me. Its amazing how that sometimes happens.

Creating Your Own Treasure Map To Happiness

 Have you ever done this??  I think that it is great fun to create the map... because it takes your thoughts away from what you are experiencing at the moment. But will it lead you to happiness?? Maybe you should begin with this list of items to consider.  Personally, I don't think that it would work for me.  But who knows...  everyone is different. Take a look and see if it would for you!!!

My Update on My Meditation Practice...

 I am closing in on 5 months of meditation and I couldn't be happier. Yes, it can be hard on certain days, but there is just something inside of me that won't let it go. There was a time when I would  get into position and I do my fifteen minutes... but not any more. I now use apps throughout the day and do two minute sessions. TWO MINUTES!!  I actually accomplish more than 15 minutes a day and my mind is not wandering half as much. And... I'm not constantly wondering when the timer is going to go off.

So, if you are having trouble sitting in one spot for 15 or more minutes... maybe it's just not right for you either.  Cut it back to a time that is just right for you.
