Feeling Lonely

Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.
Mother Teresa

Do you have someone to talk to? I can't imagine not having at least one person to talk to.  I especially think about that when I see a homeless person. Did I mention the lady who came up to me in the parking lot, asking for bus money to get home. Sadly she looked as if she had just been in a car accident with a lot of skin abrasions, but I didn't stare. All I could think of is how many people she had to ask before she found someone who would help her. Yes, I could not walk away without helping.

What I didn't know!

Here’s something that I was just reading and it made a huge impact on me.  When stress continues for long periods of time, our bodies can’t regulate the stress hormones and we are opening ourselves up to more medical problems.  That’s the last thing we need!

The Missing Piece

A sad story for more than one reason. For all of us suffering from anxiety, jigsaw puzzles are something that has gotten us through many an hour. And this particular store owner has finished one that I can't believe. She finished a 32,000 piece puzzle in 8 months. That is awesome.

Here's her story...

Charlie Bit My Finger - Ouch Charlie that really hurts!

This really shouldn't be funny... even though Charlie thinks it's hilarious, but you can't help but laugh!

Friday

So far...

It seems that we are able to rewire our own brains. Whatever started us on this "worry about everything track", does not mean that we can’t get off. Using these little techniques that I provide each day, can actually make changes to our brains. Let’s not waste a minute of worry today.

Thursday

One less thing to worry about

I’m reading an amazing book right now. It’s called “One Less Thing to Worry  About  *Uncommon Wisdom for Coping with Common Anxieties. I’m just into the first chapter and I’m already impressed. I found it at the library. It’s definitely worth checking out!

Oh, there is one more thing that I want to tell you and that is just how easy it is to forget  what you have learned. I read every morning and when I'm done I start another book on the same topic... "worry".  For me to put things into practice, I have to think about the same suggestion, more than once. So with this blog, I want to you to go back a few days and read the posts again.  You will soon find yourself saying to yourself... oh, I remember that! And the more often you say that to yourself, the more likely it it that it will stick!

Wednesday

kitten vs TWO scary things (котенок против ДВУХ неведомых хреней)

Have you had your laugh for the day? It's amazing what just a simple laugh can do for you!

Why you should be reminiscing today.

Work on your bio for your kids. You probably have tons and tons of stories that they have never heard. I work on mine each day and it takes me away from my own “problems” and lets me do a bit of reminiscing! It might seem like a huge endeavor, but it will be worth it.

Tuesday

A quote to consider

If you limit your actions in life to things that nobody can possibly find fault with, you will not do much.

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson

Sunday

When don't you worry?

Yes, I will say it again... when don’t you worry? Have you ever asked yourself that? Is there a time each day when you forget all about your worries? If you are like most of us, it's only when you are really busy. It might be when you go for a walk, or watch a movie.  Unfortunately when something is bothering me, I can't NOT think about it. Thank goodness for my clipboard of things to do. I refer to it often. You should just see my garden this year! Every single garden looks pretty awesome if I do say so myself. Each garden has it's own time to be watered and that gets me out of the house several times a day. And when I'm out there, it gives me time to enjoy a little sunshine, notice a butterfly or just smell the autumn scents.

Saturday

Time for a Pretty Picture!

You might live in the city and have no where like this to go for a walk, but having a photo, a clipping from a magazine etc, posted over your desk where you can see it, will make you feel so much better. I imagine myself walking down that lane and what might be right around the next corner. Now take a deep breath... can you almost smell the air?

Putting on a Happy Face

Give thanks for what you have in your life today. You might be feeling really horrible... like I do this morning and have no idea why, but if you begin to give thanks for everything you DO have, your day just might become a little brighter.

Friday

It's This Simple!

Today is going to be a HAPPY DAY.  Now it is up to you to see that you make it happen!! For some reason, this is a lot harder than it sounds... I guess it comes down to looking at your list of fun things to do and then picking a few of them. How often do we actually do that??

Personally, not very often. I wonder why it is so easy to have a horrible day than it is to have a happy day? There are days when I could just toss that list of fun things right out the window. :( But, I'm working on it and I hope that you will too.

Thursday

Trying to Be Perfect

I apparently suffer from this... at least I have been told. I did a little digging today and found this article that is well worth a read.  No wonder we suffer from depression, if this is how we think!

I don't know when this "needing to be perfect" thing started happening, but it has really done a number on my life.  I have had discussions with my daughter about it and she has asked me if I expect people around me to be perfect and I can honestly say no. It's just me for some reason. I CAN NOT allow myself to make mistakes. What will people think of me??

I really have to work on this one a lot harder. It is apparently okay to make mistakes... I just have to get that idea into my head.

Tuesday

For the Homeless...

What have you given of yourself today?

At the dentist yesterday, I was listening to an interview where the topic of what homeless people need, and apparently, one of the main things that we could give is socks! Who would have thought? We take them so for granted... and it means so much to these poor souls!

Saturday

Time for a Break

Do you remember when you were a teen, you spent hours in your room singing along to all of your favorite songs. I remember starting the song over and over until I had the entire song memorized. Time to do it again. Go over to YouTube, find one of your favorite songs from your teen years and sing along. Don't worry, the words will all come back to you. At the moment, I'm thinking of Norwegian Wood by the Beatles. I loved that song!!

Someone Like You

There are beautiful songs that you should listen to and then there are beautiful songs that you shouldn't listen to. This is one of them... but really, don't listen to it if you are feeling blue. Even Adelle was asked her thoughts on it and it was sad to listen to her. :(

I was going to give you the link, but then thought to myself... what am I trying to do, make you feel even worse? No, go over to YouTube and find a gorgeous song that will take you straight to bliss!

Making Room

Make room for your hopes and dreams... that is not something that a person who is suffering from depression thinks about very often. Today, I found this link that I want to share with you. It will give you lots to think about...  Staying Happy

Find Time for the Little Things

It might seem silly, but we have this tradition that drives our daughter crazy lol... but it is important to me.  After nearly 37 years of marriage, we still look for the little things and if it is a kiss under a famous local or posing for a funny shot... it works for us.

You Need Something Different

Go for a walk and look for treasures today. What those treasures are will be completely up to you. On my walks I have found everything from a quarter on the sidewalk to a gorgeous garden full of flowers. The fun part is never knowing what you will find.

ps... since it's Saturday, I have one more thing for you to do. Go and give your car a nice clean out. Sounds kind of boring I know, but losing yourself  in what you are doing will make you feel so much better. And that cup holder that has an empty can of soda... fill it with water and insert a few flowers from your garden.

Friday

Thinking About My Dad Today

He's been gone a long time so maybe that is one reason I have been feeling so off today?? Anyway this reminds me of my dad. He loved to fish and a little rain wouldn't have bothered him either! I used to go with him at night after dinner to pick worms... can't believe that I ever did that, but I apparently I  did! It makes me shudder just to think about it now!!

I can remember one story in particular that he told me. It was a fishing trip that he took with his dad.  Apparently Granddad didn't want to sit in the boat... he wanted to sit on a chair and could not be convinced that he wouldn't end up in the lake. Dad finally gave in and let Granddad sit on his chair. And yes, he did end up in the lake. Ahhh, the memories!

It's Time!

**Time for 5 Things to be Happy About and they have to be different from last month! We need a nice long list of things to refer to when we have days like this!

Weather... chilly which could have contributed to my depressed state of mind. But I did receive a photo of my little granddaughter who lives 8 hours away and that made me feel better. Just need a hug I guess.

Kind of Sad Today

I guess that it is only normal! I have been having a great week and then this morning I woke up feeling miserable. I just can't seem to pull myself out of this funk! I will refer to my to-do list and try to keep as busy as possible, but I will try not to let one day get me down. Maybe a little singing will put a smile on my face. I can't sing... just in case you are wondering, but what the heck... it if helps...  Who is up for  round of Zippity Do Dah??

Here's hoping that you are having an awesome day, but if you aren't, one is just around the corner! I just know it. :)

**Just found something else that was really interesting and explains a lot. You probably already know all of this, but your family probably doesn't! Take a look and then send off to the people who are affected by your depression.

A former Miss America is also battling depression...  Being in the limelight like that had to make a bad situation even worse. I really feel for her. She was just a baby!!

Finding What Works For You

While I’m not an expert at meditation, I do try to do a little every single day. One of the easiest I find is to repeat a word over and over again. It tends to give you something to concentrate on and when you mind begins to wander, simply draw it back to your word or phrase and continue It’s incredibly relaxing. You simply have to find the method that works for you.

While on the topic of finding things that work for you, do you have stressful mornings or stress free mornings.  Before you walk out the door, do you know where everything is? I have several different purses that I can grab  as I walk out the door and they can't each have EVERYTHING I need, so here's what I do. I have a zip lock bag that contains what I will need for the day. I leave it on the shelf by the door and when I grab a purse, I grab the bag at the same time.  No stress for me and I'm ready to go!  Okay, enough rambling... just thought that I would share!

Tuesday

Feeling Alone

Is it really so bad?  Are you ever really alone? With FB and Skype, you are seconds away from connecting from someone.  And sometimes, I like to be alone... to lose myself in a book, to listen to the kind of music that I like, or just to daydream! I think that everyone needs a little alone time. It's what you do with it that matters!

Monday

Learn to Like Asparagus

Apparently folic acid is a natural mood lightener and asparagus is one of those vegetables that contains more than most. Give it a try. This particular vegetable contains all kinds of nutrients making it one of those super foods. Put it on your shopping list this week.

Feeling Sorry For Myself

“I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.”

D.H. Lawrence

Today's Read...   certainly can't hurt! Sometimes we need constant reminding.

I knew that weather could make us fear depressed, but I didn't know that it could affect us this much. We really don't get a break at all!

I Think That I Like Myself

Have you given yourself a hug today? Worriers tend to be very hard on themselves. We have to learn to like ourselves and giving ourselves a hug on a regular basis is good for the soul.

Sunday

Absolutely Nothing...

Today, we have absolutely nothing to worry about. Our day is going to be as close to perfect as we could wish for. Lets start thinking that way this very minute!

Saturday

It's the Weekend... Be a Kid Again

It's time for a little playtime. Have you scheduled something in?  If you have trouble allowing yourself to play, make a list of things that you like to do. Having a long list will help to make this easier for you. All you have to do is pick one and devote as little time as five minutes when you are first starting out. It will get easier and then you can add a few more minutes... whatever works for you!

Giving of Yourself

I have been doing a lot of reading on the subject lately, and today the suggestion was to give something of yourself. Be generous in some way without any thought of what will be returned to you. You are giving just because that's the kind of person you are. If you are thinking of all the little ways that you can help someone else, you don't have time to worry about yourself. Honestly, I wouldn't want anyone else to go through life worrying... would you?  All it takes is one small act of kindness to make someone forget their troubles.

Friday

Over-Reacting...

Have someone to talk to... it really helps to put things into perspective! I tend to over-react, but my daughter can quickly talk me down. It helps to see how someone else views your problem. It's always not as bad as you first imagined it to be. Is there anyone that can come to your aid??

Some People Really Do Have Something To Worry About!

Yes, some people really do have something major to worry about and my heart goes out to them... it really does. That is the time to turn to your God or higher presence and ask for help.  While my problem, wasn't as bad as it could have been, I was having family problems and I asked for help. God was listening I'm happy to say.

I'm praying that your prayers are answered too. :)

Make up your mind!

Make up your mind today to be happy. It's as simple as that. If you have a choice, why not pick the one that will make you feel better.  I used to have a real hard time with this. It was just easier to be miserable! I wonder why that is??

Your Personal Time Out

Your Personal Time Out
Choose your favourite chair, sit yourself down and start breathing. This type of breathing is going to be different from the breathing that you regularly do. It’s going to be slow and deep. You have probably read about it a million times, but for something so simple, it really works. It’s like giving yourself a time out and it feels good!

Thursday

In Need of a Good Night's Sleep

It’s a well known fact that the scent of lavender can lull you to sleep, so what could be nicer than crawling between lavender scented sheets and it’s easier than you might think. All you have to do is to sprinkle a wash cloth with a few drops of lavender oil and toss it in the washing machine with your sheets. They will come out smelling delicious!

Wednesday

Slowing Yourself Down

A worrier can’t sit still for more than a minute or so at a time. Sometime today, set a kitchen timer for just one minute and try to do nothing. One minute should just be do-able.  We will up that amount of time in the coming weeks.

Feeling Overwhelmed?

There are going to be days when you feel like all is well with the world, and then there will be days when you feel that you are right back where you started. When those days hit me, I find it best to stay busy. I put the timer on for 15 minute increments and then fill those increments with whatever I can find to do. Actually today started out like that, and it is amazing just how much you can get done when you stay busy!  And when you are busy, you haven't the time to obsess!

Tuesday

What's The Point??

What is the point of worrying about something that hasn’t happened yet? At this point, there is nothing you can do to fix the problem, even if it was to happen. Stay in the now is more important than ever.

Monday

No Fear For Today

Have you read your affirmations for the day? I try to do so several times a day. One of mine is... "I'm not afraid of anything." I really need to believe that. To fear something is giving into it. I want to be strong.

My Husband is Having the Time of His Life

My husband is the most "happy go lucky" person I know. In all the years that we have been married, I can't think of a thing (off the top of my head) that has stressed him out. At the moment, he is sitting in his "man cave" watching soccer and having the time of his life, shouting out his thoughts on the game as it progresses.

An Update to Our Stress Busting List

We began a Stress Busting List at the beginning of January. Today we are going to add a few new things to the list. Think of two new things that bring contentment to your soul. Here's mine...

1. Learn something new about stress. It's what we don't know that can hurt us.
2. People watch. I did this yesterday at the mall and you can learn so much from the actions of others.

Listening To The Birds Sing Meditation
