How To Do A Solo Road Trip

 At first glance, this did not appeal to me at all, but something drew me to the article... and I had no idea why until I began to read it.  It was then I realized why I hated road trips soooo much. Negative Chatter Always Happens At Night

 Mom is in the hospital possibly with pneumonia and that is all that I could think about as I tried to get to sleep last night. I knew that dwelling on it wasn't going to help her or me so I turned to one of my meditation practices of concentrating on your breath. It took a while but I managed to drift off to sleep, only to wake up again to begin worrying again. Thankfully, concentrating on my breaths helped over and over and I woke up this morning to find an update from my sister. It's not pneumonia but they are keeping her in for observation because they aren't sure what is causing her symptoms. With 14 people having been admitted already from her nursing home, staying in the hospital is probably the best thing that they can do for her...

And I can thank the techniques that I have been learning to help control my thoughts! They worked when I really needed them to!!

You Aren't Off The Hook... Just Because You Meditate

I have been working hard the last two months... even doing the floor work which is incredibly hard. I have had back issues for years and I'm doing my best to strengthen my core, but I still have a long way to go. I don't know how one sits on the floor to meditate without feeling the effects... but that is another story.

Anyway, I have been not exactly bragging about the little gains that I have made, but I have been sharing them. Well today I had a set back. It all started with an arguement that I just couldn't let go of and I'm still not passed it. Darling daughter even took me into town to try to shake it off, but that was a waste of time... I feel bad for her. I just wasn't in the mood for shopping.   I will do meditate again tonight and hopefully I can put this behind me...  I'm hoping for a much better tomorrow!!

I guess that it takes a lot of time!!

How To Be Blissfull

 I think that is what drew me to meditation in the first place. I couldn't remember the last time I felt bliss. But I think that lately I have started thinking about life in a different way. I want... all the time. That was my idea of bliss. I am letting all of that go and my thoughts now are more in line with... how can I help?

I grew up thinking that I had to be successful and if I wasn't, I wasn't worth anything. Maybe success if not what I thought it was. If I can help one person today feel a little better...maybe that should be my goal.

Meditation... Just Too Hard For You???


 Try meditating in a different location!  I had to do this many times in the beginning. And when the temps warm up, I will probably take my practice outside.  But honestly it does get easier. I'm not thinking about the passing minutes hardly at all anymore and I'm closing in on my second month. Still have a long way to go, but I'm noticing little things taking place in my brain lol... like how I see things. :)

I didn't know it but May is Mental Health month and a great time to get into a new practise that will help you feel better. It's already working for me... but I have to stress, this is a long term thing and what is nice is that it is a habit that you won't want to give up!!

Playing Games

You probably weren't expecting this, but I think that it has benefits to help you cope with your life. Today I want you to download The Sims 4 game if you don't already have it. Now create yourself as your main character and then create your perfect life just for fun! Now put on a timer and play for 30 minutes. It's like creating your own life... where you get to do things you probably never thought of.

We don't play enough... in case you never noticed!! Now which character will be you??  And yes it's available for PC and Mac in case the photo is confusing.

I Didn't Realize That I Did This

Well, I guess that I did know that I was always in a rush, but maybe not to the point... until it was pointed out to me... in a book! I do everything fast... even eat breakfast and I really have no where to be most mornings. It's just a bad habit!

Anyway, this morning, I took my time and had a long leisurely breakfast and it actually felt good! It's all about taking your time and relaxing.

Meditation Messes With Men's Minds

 I really want to know more about this, but unfortunately the page would not load for me. Doesn't that just drive you crazy!! I'm giving you the link just in case you can get it to work for you. I've been trying to talk hubby into giving meditation a try but now I want to know why it's "messing with men's minds"! All I know is that he really has no use for it himself, but if it helps me... he's fine with it. I do have to wonder now why he doesn't want to try it??

Depression Vs Anxiety

Well, I learned something today that I didn't know. You are depressed if you live in the past. You have anxiety issues if you live in the future.  I constantly think about all the horrible things that COULD happen in the future.  At least I know what I'm dealing with...

So now I know what I'm dealing with. My mom... lives in the past. Odd how different thinks will affect different people.

**And by the end of this week, I will have completed 2 monthes of Vipassana  Meditation and I am seeing some tiny improvements!!  And this morning, I managed 15 minutes without opening my eyes even once to check how much longer I had to sit in one spot without moving lol!! And yes, your eyes do kind of weird!

Medical Students Taught To Meditate

 I never really thought of the stress that a doctor would have to deal with. I guess after a few decades, you kind of get a handle on it, but a brand new doctor... which I now have. I wonder how he deals with it. I would imagine that he is seeing a whole new side dealing with patients with a a brand new practice. Who do they turn to when they are stressing out about a particular patient?? I would imagine that they have all kinds of backup during residency... but what about after, when they are all by themselves?

 And this just jumped out at me... "Physician burnout exceeds 70 percent in many specialties, he says, and suicide rates among doctors are consistently among the highest for all professions. “You can suffer with your patients,” he adds."  That is pretty frightening and not something that I ever thought about.

Yes, I'm Still Practicing!


 I really didn't know whether or not I would be able to stay with meditation but by the end of the month, I will be finishing my second month. When I began the challenge, it was supposed to be for a month! Managed that and now I'm into month two.

So what have I learned?? Unfortunately, you have good days and bad days. But you also notice things that you have been doing wrong and you proceed to correct yourself.  That is impressing me!!

I Didn't Know That Spring Could Do This To You

 I was just looking out the window today, quite excited that the trees all around me were bursting into leaf!  But, it was cold outside and I never ventured out.

And here I thought that it was partly due to the winter blues that was contributing to my mood the last couple of months!   I wonder what meditation can do about that?? Apparently the air quality can do a number on you as well!  Not sure if meditation can help out with that!!

A Sound Bath

 I never thought of something like this, but apparently it is growing in popularity!!  I wonder if you can smell the flowers as you meditate?? On the other hand, I could do that right here in my own back yard. I'm going to invest in a hammock (that won't kill my back) and then put on an eye mask, set a timer for an hour and listen to the sounds of my own back yard!!

 I think that this is even a better reason for us to try to get a handle of the situation without relying on drugs. And I do think that it's catching on... slowly but catching on. I have had several friends letting me know that they are also taking classes and enjoying them!!

What a Meditation Cushion Actually Looks Like

This is apparently what a meditation pillow looks like. I really had no idea. For some reason, I expected it to be smaller and flatter. I found it on Amazon... at some point I want to use something better than a dining room chair and 237 people have given it 4 1/2 stars out of five.  I decided to find out more and read the review of a Michael P... who gave it 5 stars out of five, but it's what he actually said about the pillow that I found interesting. Apparently your hips have to be higher than your knees or you will run into all kinds of problems. He was apparently pretty happy with this one. Just out of curiosity, I'm going to sit on a cushion and see where my knees actually are.

Meditation in the Garden

 No, I did not sit out in the garden, close my eyes and counted my breaths... I was out there working... with a jacket and a touk on to cover my ears. For all the sunshine out there, there was a definite bite in the wind.

Now here is where the meditating came in... I was weeding a particular bed on the side of a small hill... and I pretty much didn't think about anything while I was working. So, I put in an hour of exercise AND an hour of unexpected meditating. That's another 60 minutes that I can add to my total of 450 minutes.  You will be amazed at how you can completely lose yourself in what you are doing and before you know it... an hour has passed.

Now I think that I will sit for 15 minutes to listen to a guided meditation... I'm exhausted lol!

30 days of 30 Day Meditation 450 minutes


This is the last day of my meditation practise... I did it!!  I meditated every day for 30 days!!I think that every thing that I read about staying with the practise for an entire month was right. This will become something that I do on a daily basis now. I just added up how many minutes that I have completed and it comes to a grand total of 450 minutes. 

I won't be featuring posts about my every day meditations, but I will keep you updated on new research and new techniques. It's been a great month!!  I wonder what May will bring??

29th Day of 30 Day Meditation


Did not use timer today...just sat down and meditated even before my reading session. This seems to work better than using a timer. I go as long as I can and then stop. I was planning on trying for 10 minutes, but I actually did 15! Quite pleased with that.

I also had some phone calls to make this morning and I had been stressing over that all weekend. I took care of both and it was easier than I expected them to be.

And to finish the day, I had a doctor's appointment, and then came home to find that we had forgotten to take a key with us...   We then paid a man to pick our lock!!  I had no idea that they charged that kind of money. I think that I need to learn how to do this!!  All in all, we are inside and relaxing. On tomorrows agenda... some weed pulling.

 World wide, more than 300 million are depressed... kind of sad and that is just the people that they are aware of. The numbers could easily be twice that much because the numbers are climbing every year!  And to see what it contributes to is kind of scary. Two of the four mentioned, I either have or have thought about.

28th Day of the 30 Day Meditation


I'm meditating about 3 times a day now (ten minutes at a time)! I'm using different methods as well... something different for each one of them.
I want to tell you before I forget, because you are going to love this channel on YouTube. It's called Meditation Vacation and it is awesome for Guided Meditations. I'm going to use that during the day when I'm working for a little breather. If anything can relax me, this will be it. Go and check it out if you are in need of a little guidance.

I also noticed yesterday that I'm willing to not be quite so fearful as I was just a week ago. I ventured further into the forest today... all by myself. There is a path that everyone in the family knows about so if I didn't come back lol... everyone would know where to start looking.

Did you notice that I said that I'm not quite so fearful??  I'm not as brave as darling daughter or hubby, but I'm seeing slight improvements. That's good enough for me.

Now we shall see how the rest of the week goes... it's going to be a bit more stressful.

5 Minutes of Coloring Can Have the Same Benefits As An Hour of Meditating

 I honestly don't know if I agree with this one or not. I have tried the whole coloring thing and I hated it. It wasn't the least bit relaxing.  I actually tried this before the "adult coloring books" actually came out. I had a long trip down to Florida to get through, (and I hate it with a passion) and thought that I would print off some mandalas to take with me along with some colored pencils. Well, that lasted about 5 minutes and I hated that too. It certainly didn't relax me. I spent more time fussing over what color I should use... and I don't think that wasn't the purpose.

On the other hand, an hour of meditation at the moment is beyond me too so coloring for 5 minutes would definitely be easier, but I don't see how they are the same.

On Today's To-Do List

** I am going  for a walk. I'm so sick of staying inside. It's been one brutal winter and I'm so glad to get outside. So what is special about these walks??  I simply keep my eyes on the ground. There will be other times when I can watch what is going on, but right now this is going to be a walking meditation. I watch my feet with every step. (It also prevents me from tripping lol)

A Daily Walk Can Do More Than Reduce Your Depression

 We are always told to get more exercise... might as well kill 2 birds with one stone... isn't that a horrible metaphor!!  And that is just what I finished doing.  I think that I will try to work one walk into my daily regimen. I might still need boots and a parka... but it will be worth it. At least it is above zero!!

April 1... 27 days of 30 Day Meditation


A little different today. Got out of bed and then went into the spare room to read... I found some awesome books on meditation at the library yesterday. Read the intro (I was hooked) and then the first of 52 mini chapters. I am sadly going to have to give this book back, but if it keeps me as interested as it did this morning, I'm just going to have to HAVE THIS BOOK!

And then I did a 5 minute meditation followed by a ten minute meditation after breakfast. Really pleased with what I accomplished this morning. This afternoon... a nice long walk out to the road to take a look at the river.
