Actually, I was thinking of starting a list of things that I'm curious about... When I want to do the Power-Up, I can't think of a thing. So, a little reminding won't be a bad thing.  I have always wondered about alternate universes.. I wonder if anyone has done a Ted's Talk on the subject??

My Favorite Meditation

 I have tried lots of them but my all time favorite is a 2 minute meditation that I turn down really low. It's someone playing the flute and I close my eyes and envision that I'm sitting deep in the woods and I can hear this melody coming from far far away. While it's playing in the distance... I simply listen. I do this several times a day and I always feel at peace.

There are lots of apps right on your computer... be sure to check them out. YouTube is another really good place to learn more. :)

For Those Of You Who Hate To Exercise... as much as I do!

SuperBetter comes with several exercise related Power-Ups but what if none of them appeal to you??  Then what??  You make a  Power-Up that does. What do you like to do that simply gets you out of your chair and moving?  That's good for a start!  For me... I like to walk in the pool. Only problem is that we don't have one. But... if I penciled in some time at a community pool... I would get points for the exercise part and points for the social part!!

Don't Pick Something Too Hard...

 When you first start SuperBetter, you will need to choose an Epic Win.  I was just reading about how to choose one in Jane's book.  She advises you to choose small to start off and that is really good advice. Mine was monumental and I wasn't sure if I would be able to pull it off.  She compares it to wanting to win a Nobel Peace Prize...  Yes, that is where my Epic Win would fall.  So, I changed it... If you are still pondering your first Epic Win, choose one that can be completed in an amount of time that you feel comfortable with. Accomplishing it, will make you feel strong enough to choose your next Epic Win!

Are You Planning On Making a New Year's Resolution??

 If the entire thought of it turns you off, maybe it's because you are making them too hard. Maybe make several resolutions that can be crossed off every week.  The more of them that you cross off, the stronger you will become and the harder your resolution will be... just to prove to yourself that you can do it.

You want to know what my first resolutions is going to be??  For a week, I'm going to find 5 things to be happy about every single day. LOL... for me that can be a struggle so my first is going to be a resolution that, with a bit of work, I just might be able to pull off. For week 2... I will pick something new... like maybe sewing all of those granny squares that have still need sewing. A week should do it!!  I just never seen to get around to it.

:)  That doesn't sound all that bad!!   I will just choose 52 resolutions for 2018 and I will manage every single one of them if I try really hard. ;)

Responding Instead of Reacting

 I know that this is a really tiny thing, but I caught the edge of my nail and I instantly sealed it with a dot of nail polish, but it lasted about an hour. I just caught it again and there went my mood... and then I remembered this Power-Up... Respond Instead of Reacting!  The nail is broken. There is nothing to do but trim it and then let it grow out again.

No biggy!  I'm responding instead of letting it ruin my day!

MY Second Power-Up... A Fail and No Points

 My second choice for Power-Up by dragging the cursor was "Have You Laughed Today"?   Well, I get a big fat no for that one. I wasn't in the best of moods when I got up and hadn't laughed...  so I had to move on and choose another Power-Up. Now the good thing is the fact that I realized a work-around for that particular Power-Up... I  need to tell a joke at the breakfast table each morning. My jokes are usually pretty bad and I'm usually laughing before I'm half way through the joke... so there you go.  The next time I choose that Power-Up, I can click it and gain a point!

Maybe I Have Too Many Power-Ups??


 It does seem that my list is growing and growing and I noticed that I'm not getting to some of them on a regular basis, so I simply placed my mouse on the cursor and pulled it down with eyes closed. When I stopped, that would be the Power-Up I would use today... It was "Take a Dose of Mindfullness".   It took a grand total of 30 seconds to finish. One down and two more to go!

The Big Bad Rejection Beast

 This was the Bad Guy that I chose today... I think that most of us expect to be rejected on one occasion or another. It's like this little voice is warning you not to contact that person, because they are annoyed at you... for something and won't return your email.  Well, guess what!! I'm going to send that email and then sit back and wait. If they don't get back to me... well, I tried.   From experience, most of the time I do hear back from them... it's just that little voice in my head that is trying to scare me into not working on those Social Skills...

Write a Note To Yourself From Your Super Identity

 I have a very strong "Super Identity" that I check in with every morning. To keep it interesting, once a week, I edit what she might say to me about my progress... looking back to the previous week. Is she pleased with my progress or is she pointing out that I'm stronger than I showed her last week... kind of a little kick in the butt!  That works too lol!!

Let Hunger Be Your Guide

 Seeing that we are right in the middle of the holidays and all those gorgeous goodies are calling your name... thank goodness I have a Power-Up entitled "Let Hunger Be Your Guide"!  You have no idea how may times I have had to remind myself that I'm not hungry... I just want that Christmas Muffin that I made a few days ago!  So, did I forgo it??  No... I cut it in half and I'm enjoying just half of the smallest muffin with my coffee... and for dessert over the holidays, I restrict it to a sliver. Hey it's Christmas. Once the holidays are over, I will go back to my old system.

The Importance of Hugs!

 Have you ever counted how many times you hug the people in your household each day... or any sort of touch?  There are just three of us, but I really had to think about it. This morning I gave my husband a hug... and when our daughter rolls out of bed, I will do the same for her.  I'm curious to see if there is any change in their behavior if they experience hugs  throughout the day. I know that it made me feel better.

Do You Have a Calendar for 2018... Look for one like this!

 If someone didn't already give you one, head out and look for a funny "Page a Day" calendar.  I have one by Dave Barry that I have never thrown out... I don't even know how old it is, but each day, I choose one page that has been torn off the calendar and read what it has to say. A great way to start your day... putting you in a great frame of mind. If Dave Barry can't make you "crack a smile" (one of my Power-Ups btw) nobody can. hahaha

Kind of Like Meditating...

Find a quiet spot to sit and then close your eyes. Now slowly breathe in and out just  like you do when your are meditating.  The difference this time is that you are going to engage all of your senses. I usually start with what I can taste, and then move onto what I can hear  and how about smell...

**Instead of thinking about what lies ahead, you are just thinking about the here and now...

Here's what I noticed... I can still taste the toothpaste that I used. I happen to love the toothpaste that using baking soda.  And then I sit quietly and listen... Oddly enough when you live in the country, you get used to hearing... nothing. We live a long way in from the road, so we don't even hear the snowplow or cars that might be going by. Now for what I can smell the faint scent of lavender that is in my hand soap.  And then I open my eyes and I get a point lol!  All of the Power-Ups are just like playing a game!!

Still On the Exercise Thread... kind of

Okay, might as well get as much bang for the buck as I can. I came up with the idea of creating my own Quest... yes, you can do that. One that I created was to spend 5 minutes tidying up your work out area. Is there  anything worse than trying to exercise in an area that is messy... aka cluttered. If you stop to tidy up the area, chances are, you really won't be in the mood to start working out. So... create yourself a morning Quest and get the tidying part out of the way so that when the time to exercise rolls around, your work out area will be ready and waiting... and inviting too!

Yeah, I was a bit sneaky... not only will I get points for exercising, I also get points for cleaning up the area.

Do You Care What Other People Think?

 "What Would My Grandmother Think" ... That is another Bad Guy that's on my list.  For the most part this IS the case, (maybe not my grandmother)  but I'm getting over it. Why should I honestly care what someone else thinks of the Epic Win that I have chosen for myself. Again... you have to turn your thoughts back to your Secret Identity. Would he or she care what anyone else thought?? I'm pretty sure that they could care less what ANYONE thought. It's what you think!

I have seen this Bad Guy before and every time that I read what this Bad Guy wants me to believe, it sinks in a little bit more. I'm in control... not the bad guy!!

No Interest in Exercising??

 That is soooo me. I hate to exercise and only do it because I know that I should. That said, I was reading at breakfast that if you play The Sims (which I do for about 30 minutes a day) and your Sim's Avatar exercises on a regular basis, there is a tendency for you to follow suit and exercise probably a little bit more than you would normally do.

Now, I don't think that I ever send my Sim out to go jogging, but I did notice that at the moment, she is trying to learn how to play the guitar. I want her to get to the top so I give her this chore to do every day. Now what I didn't notice is the fact that I'm suddenly spending more time on my French flash cards. I was quite happy to do about 5 minutes a day... now I have lost track at how often I pick up those cards.  Makes you wonder doesn't it.  Am I mirroring my Sim who is attempting to learn something new??

Later when I do Physical Power Ups... How I'm Going To End My Day...

 While I turned all of my attention to my Physical Power-Ups, I'm sure that I have probably missed some. I'm not sure who created them, but sometimes the name of them doesn't give a whole lot away. So I think that I will go down the list, open each one of them and just take a look. I will add the appropriate ones to file cards that will go in the exercise category and work my way through them on a different day of the week.

ps... no, I'm not giving up on my meditation Power-Ups... they need to be done every single day!

Now This Is One Odd Power-Up I Have To Admit...

When I was a kid, I was told to brush my teeth after every meal and before I went to bed. I did that for years and years!!

And  then new studies came out that told us that we should not brush our teeth immediately after eating, especially if we had that cup of coffee or two... which meant waiting at least a half hour so that we don't brush away the enamel. Well, that was all fine and good, but I started forgetting as I waited for the time to pass after drinking coffee... for example. It got to the point when I would only remember when I got ready for bed!! That meant that I was brushing my teeth only once a day. That's where the Power-Up comes in!

I made 3 file cards that would remind me to brush me teeth throughout the day... Problem solved.  Those cards were a constant reminder and now my teeth get brushed at least 3 x a day instead on just once.  If you make your own Power-Ups, they are going to ask you what category to apply to it... Physical, Emotional, Social or Mental... you can take your pick lol!!

This Should Be Worth 100 Social Points

 I have been estranged from my brother for a long time, but SuperBetter played a part in bringing us back together.  When we last spoke, I told him never to call me again and if and when I was ready, I would let him know. Yes, it was something that he had done to cause the rift between us, but my anxiety level had dropped to a point when I pulled away from all of the family. But it was my brother who suffered the most.

Last night he called me to wish me a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I could hear the fear in his voice. He wasn't sure how I would react... (long story there)  I didn't answer the phone but thought about it long and hard and suddenly something that Jane McGonigal has said came into my thoughts. I needed to look at the situation as a Challenge.  As soon as I thought of the problem in that way, I knew what I had to do... I was going to  call him this morning and turn things around. I told him that I was getting a little better but we needed to proceed with baby steps and that he needed to agree if we were to move on. He did. (We will be using FaceBook)

Oddly enough, I was also reading a Christmas novel by Debbie Macomber (the one with Christmas Angels before I got up for breakfast and suddenly my thoughts shifted. I was no longer dreading the next move. I relaxed and knew that I was ready to call my brother. And the call was the highlight of my day!!

What Is Nice About Facebook and Your Social Numbers

 Yesterday I worked REALLY hard to get my Social numbers up and I managed to meet my goal, but this morning, all I had to do was respond to some of the FB messages from friends that I had contacted yesterday!  It is even easier today to build up my daily points!  I honestly never saw that coming. My Social Goal For Today!

 Just checked and my Social Scores as of this morning are sitting at 201 points. My mental and Emotional is sitting over 1000 but have to admit that collecting points in that area is a lot easier.  So, I have decided to try and get my Social Score up to 210 by the end of the day. 

I wonder if I can do it?? It seems that you have to be pretty social to be awarded points... at least for me it is!

Update as 11:a.m. I was up to 208 but it took a lot more work than I wanted to give to it... What is wrong with me??? I should enjoy being sociable... On the other hand, I hated to doodle a month ago and you should see the stack that I have... and I'm really enjoying it!!!

Today's Bad Guy

It's called... The Line Up. Its when you have to get everything  perfect in your life so that you can be happy!  I have a tendency to want to do this but I have to  start think about happiness in a different way. I have read a zillion times that only I can make myself be happy. It has nothing to do with getting everything just right... but sometimes, you really have to wonder!! Obviously I still have to work on this! ;)

Here Is What I'm Finding The Hardest...

 Working on some of my Social Power-Ups... I have my family, talked to my granddaughter and my son... and I'm pretty much have all that I need... but my numbers are still too low. Apparently I need to have the kind of social life I had as a teenager... It was fun back then, but it's not quite as important to me as it once was.   Should go back into SuperBetter and read about the science of being social!

How Close Am I Getting To My Super Identity??

I asked myself this question this morning. Am I stronger than I was a month ago? I sat and I thought about it for a couple of minutes and set each of us up side by side to make the determination.  I have come to the conclusion that I still have a long way to go, but I'm seeing improvement. It's not necessarily in strength, but by the way that I view things that are happening to me. I'm not reacting in the way that I once did. I am beginning to realize that I have options now. Fear and panic is not setting in as quickly as it once did!!

It's an Power-Up  I created myself using a free meditation program on the computer. It even has a timer so you can set it as long or as short a time as you want.  You can just close your eyes and listen to the crackling fire and all is right with my world.

The Quest That Got Me To The Finish Line...

I'm terrible when it comes to wrapping Christmas presents and in years past, you would still find me  wrapping gifts on Christmas Eve... but not this year. I made a Quest and made it a daily priority to wrap at least one Christmas gift every single day and it worked. Every gift  has been wrapped and is now sitting nicely under the tree. That gave me some mental points lol and my stress at having to squeeze in some time to get everything done... vanished this year!! Today, I can sit back and do whatever I want. :)

My Latest Level... 21

Now this one is quite interesting... it talks about superstitions and how some people can actually make them work in their favor. I was told to go out and find my own lucky charm... because it will make me think that I have an edge to getting to my epic win!!  At first I didn't believe in it, but then I thought about all of the athletes  who do all kinds of crazy things to keep up their momentum!  Can't hurt can it? And then there is the science behind it!! 

And I also noticed that I have filled in all but one block on my SuperBetter Journey. Have no idea what that means but obviously I will soon see!! When I get there, I will let you know!!

Now I See Why My Social Is Soooo Low

Just Read Every Single Power-Up and found that there are only 5 Power-Ups that I have that contribute to my being "Social". I don't know how that happened, but I can now see that I am going to have to add some of my own.

This is probably going to be harder because I really don't want to reach out to people. I'm quite happy being somewhat of a loner.  I wonder what ever happened to that teenage girl who loved being the center of attention?? And in a BIG way!!

The Forum is Now Up and Running

 At the top right hand side of Superbetter there were some links that I noticed when I first joined. One was called the "forum" and it never ever did work. After  58 days... guess what... it began working. I had clicked on it every single morning hoping for the best and suddenly it opened... but under a new name. It is now called "Community".  You are invited to join and then asked to introduce yourself and tell everyone your favorite Power-Up. I did so, telling who I was and where I was from.  It wasn't  very long, I had someone come in with a bit of advice!!

It has now become one of my first stops each morning!!  And, Jane McGonigal is there, leaving messages! How cool is that??

Yesterday Was a Bigger Success Than I Expected

Yesterday, I was not happy with my Physical graph. It was trailing my emotional and my mental scores... no laughing lol. My husband thinks that is hilarious ;)  but I nearly brought it (the physical) up to 50 % of those two areas of SuperBetter.  Today I'm going to concentrate on Social which is REALLY sad and see what I can do.  Social has to be one of my hardest areas of my life. While I'm going to sneak in some physical activities today so that my bar doesn't drop, I'm really going to concentrate on making myself a "people person" a wee little bit today.  Wish me luck!!

Concentrating Just on My Physical Power-Ups

I chose 7 Power-Ups that would all give me points and the bar is definitely moving. I would like to get it to 50% of the way by this afternoon. At the moment I'm about 1/3 of the way. I'm pretty tired out at the moment, but will taken on more Power-Ups after lunch.

I noticed that I have a lot to make up... even if you can make them up?? So, I decided to use file cards and write down ever Physical Power-Up I have. Life Is Beautiful

Another Power - Up... Listening to music and it is  "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" by Trans Siberian Orchestra!  It took me right back to a Christmas morning a few years ago when  when I found a set of tickets under the tree on Christmas morning... 

Yes, life can be beautiful if you listen to music... I will have to use music a whole lot more often throughout my day. And I need to read up on music therapy!!  because it's working right now.

I Don't Know Why This Power-Up Worked...

 One of my Power-Ups told me to put on makeup. I honestly didn't see how this could help, but I did look at the drawer and saw all the money that I had wasted and decided to use a little of it. I actually felt better. I looked at myself in the mirror and that little bit of color on my face, did make me feel better.

And as far as all the money I had spent, I'm not doing that any more. I'm working with one eye liner... that's all I need and when I get to the end of that eye liner... I will buy another one. That made me feel better too!!

Did You Ever Want To Impress Someone?

 Maybe it's vain of me, but I really did want to be able to speak another language and I'm 40 something percent there and SuperBetter is helping me. I spend 5 minutes every single day reviewing and the minutes fly by. Now there will come a time when the grammar and vocab will require a lot longer to learn... but I'm not going to give up!!  I am quite impressed with myself and that is pretty darn good!

I Was Happy Today

That is one of my Power-Ups and I will be writing down how many times i was able to say... Yes, I was Happy Today.  At the moment, it's not very high, but my goal for January is at least 15 out 30 days. If I can master that, I will be really pleased with myself!!

 You really need to keep a pen and paper handy to write them down, because I told everyone at the table something that I found funny yesterday and now for the life of me, I can't remember what it was so that I can hit the Power-Up... For me, it's going for a long walk out to the road and back. That tends to give me something new to focus on... At the moment, that would be all the deer tracks in the snow. Sometimes, it's the way the snow has settled on a particular tree. It's all about being curious.

First Thing I Did This Morning...

The house was quiet and everyone was still sound asleep... so  I picked up a Christmas novel and I read until I heard people down in the kitchen. My mood went from a 5 to a 9!! Now how cool is that!!

When Bad Things Happen...

I think that I'm going to have to think about this one for a while. I tend to jump to quick conclusions without allowing possibilities to emerge. Maybe this has happened to me and I missed it.  I can hope maybe... it would make it easier to accept!!

Update on Music Therapy...

I sat through 3 Ted Talks and to be honest, they really didn't convince me one way or another. But the last one was a woman and what she had to say did resonate with me.  I guess that if you are interested, you have to listen to a few different people's take on the subject and then decide what your thoughts are going to be on the topic.

All I know is that the one song that I told you about did make me feel happy... maybe that is all there is to it. Am curious though so I will be spending more time to see what else I can learn!!
