My Daily Tips To Get Through the Day!

Am I a Horrible Person?

 I had a hard enough time seeing Mom this week and knowing that it could be the last time. She is eating only a few spoonfuls of yogurt a day and a sip or two of Boost. How can she exist on that??  It's been a week and the staff is obviously just waiting because they don't have her on IV.  Don't know how I feel about that, but that isn't my mom in that bed.  She needs to let go so that she can go and be with dad!

Now I have to start thinking about the funeral that I really don't want to go to. I don't want my last memories to be of that day. Does that make me a horrible person??

Saw Mom Yesterday


 She is still holding on! Can't believe that she is being so strong, but she obviously is not ready to let go quite yet. 

On the way home we stopped for dinner... no one was really in the mood to eat, but blood sugar dropping fast so hubby and daughter insisted. They also insisted that we stop and buy Halloween candy. It was just what I needed. It's funny how the little things seem to help!

Today, have no idea what I'm going to do, but I think that we will try to take another long walk today. I'm finding that it really helps!

Almost Time To Say Good-bye

 Planning on going to see Mom tomorrow.  Today, I'm going to try to simply stay busy.  The woman definitely has a will of her own.  We were led to believe that she was fading fast and she is still with us.  Wish we didn't live sooo far away!!

When A Game Really Helps

The entire day went by and I heard nothing from my sister. Her last post let us know that the nursing home and called and said that she might want to be close by and she had spent last night in a neighbouring town, but we heard nothing all day and nothing this morning. It could mean two things... she is still with us or my sister is to devastated to post anything. I could call, but just thinking about it has me tearing up.

So, about the game... Yesterday was incredibly long as you can imagine and I could either spend my time thinking about what is going on or I could spend my time playing The Sims...   I spent a lot of the day playing The Sims. I have four characters at the moment including an elder, her younger husband, his step daughter and his alien son... okay, yes, you do get to have alien children. Anyway, all the storylines were enough to keep my mind occupied and I think that I just fell apart a couple of times. I don't know how I would have gotten through the day of waiting without my husband and daughter and The Sims...

I definitely got my money's worth with that game... that's for sure!  Thanks for stopping by. Updating this blog is helping big time!!

Not once did I think about how I was feeling and I'm pretty much falling apart right now.  Thank God for my daughter who has been here every step of the way talking me through the dark moments.

At the moment, my mom is at death's door and I'm having a hard time loving myself. Everything that I should have done is filling my mind even though my kids are telling me that I did all that I could and that mom wouldn't want me to be feeling this way... and they are right.  It's hard though. You can always come up with a handful (at least) of things that you could have done.  Today, I'm going to try to spend as much of the day filling my mind with happy memories of mom and the things that we shared.  I just want her to be at peace...

I hope that you will spend some time loving yourself too.  When it comes to being nice to yourself, it has to be the hardest thing to make yourself do.  It's so much easier to berate yourself with "should haves."

It's The Little Things

 Find little things to get excited about each day. They don't have to be anything spectacular, but something that you can look forward to! And if you can find lots of little things... even better. I really struggled with this when I first began. I honestly didn't think that I had ANYTHING to look forward to, but each day I began looking for just one thing and I slowly got better at it. It's amazing how your mood will turn around when you have something to look forward to.

This morning I woke up to find all the roofs covered in snow. At first I was kind of dismayed but then I began thinking about the fact that I can begin listening to Christmas music up in my own little "office" and I can hum to my hearts content!!

Even it it's still October lol!!

Fear of Telephones

 Believe it or not, I (not that long ago) feared the telephone. If I had to talk to someone about anything, I would far sooner talk to them in person, even if it was a complete stranger than to call them on the telephone. The thought of having to explain what I needed to tell them, left me tongue-tied.

And then someone pointed out to me that it should be the person on the end of the telephone who should be feeling fearful... and I don't wish that on anyone, but it completely turned around the way I thought about telephone calls and the stranger on the other end. These people are paid to help me! 

Okay, so I still am not a big fan of telephones, but having to use one doesn't have my heart pounding out of my chest. So, the lesson to be learned today is to rethink what is terrifying you. I just wish that I had changed my way of thinking years ago!  Hopefully, it won't take you as long as it did for me!!!

Smile Today

 Sounds dumb, but try to smile at as many people as you can today! There is no way of knowing but your smile might be the only smile they receive!  Just thinking about the fact makes me want to put on a coat and go out for a walk so that I can find people to smile at!

Pass It On...

 Try to come up with at least one thing today that might make someone else happy!  I have spent the day in the basement, sorting out the boxes and boxes of Christmas decorations and have come to the conclusion that I have way too many Christmas houses and no where in this house to display them all when the time comes.

Decided which ones that I really want and which ones that I wouldn't mind passing along to someone else and dropped them off at Good Will.  I hope that the new owner will get as much enjoyment out of them as I did!

I Played Today!

 This morning I spent a little time on my legacy challenge with my Sims game.  I have never tried the legacy challenge for some reason, but I began with one character named Tyler and he now has an extended family of a best friend and her adopted daughter, an old love interest and their teenage son and Tyler's present wife who is a doctor.  The best friend has recently passed on but the rest of the family is thriving nicely. I love that I am able to grow up the kids and even give them traits that I recognize in myself.

I have never actually played much of anything as an adult. I honestly didn't think that adults were allowed to play but I have learned that it is IMPORTANT for us to pencil in a little play time every day and The Sims is allowing me to do just that!!

** Thanks to the family tree and some cousins I didn't know that I had, I was introduced to The Sims!  It's a video game for those of you who aren't familiar with the game and I fell in love with it!  It's kind of like opening up a book where you get to tell the people where to go and what to do!!

My Morning Plans :)

 Where I live, it's going to be jacket weather, but the sky is blue and the sun is shining!  This morning I'm going to start going for a walk every morning to see what Halloween decorating has been put out by the neighbours! I get a little exercise and  I just might meet a new neighbour!  Actually a new family just moved in up the street and it might be nice to say hello and welcome them to the street! One more/new friend is a nice way to start your day! Can you ever have too many!!!

 When you find yourself sinking into that sad place, pick up a novel. You will know what kind of novel  that will work for you. At the moment I'm rather hooked on Heather Graham and her group of FBI agents that can see ghosts!  Certainly takes my mind off what I don't want to be stuck thinking about!! Give it a try!!  Didn't expect that these sorts of stories would work, but they did and I'm on my second of her series!

Baking Cookies and What It Can Do :)

 When I'm in a mood, I find that it helps to go and do something out of the ordinary.  Often that means heading to the kitchen and baking. There is just something about the smell of cookies baking in a warm kitchen that relaxes me and takes my mind off whatever is bothering me!

Write the idea on a file card and tape it inside of your baking cupboard so that you have a constant reminder. :)  It has helped me numerous times!!

You Are Good at More Than You Give Yourself Credit For!!

 Make a list today of at least one thing that you are really good at! Something that should make you proud of yourself. It won't be easy because we are much better at finding our faults, but do your best! Where did I get the idea?  It was in a novel that I was reading. The character loved to paint, but would not pursue the idea of trying to market her work, because she didn't think that she was good enough. My own daughter is constantly telling me the same thing, but I'm still not at the place where I  would take it to an art show... not even close! But, it did make me think that maybe my stuff isn't that amateurish  after all.

Guess I will stick with it! Who knows?? I hope you will stick with it too!!  :)

What Goes Around Should Come Around!

Yesterday you did something nice for someone else. When was the last time you did something nice for yourself? I bet you probably don't remember!!

Actually, my daughter notice the little thing that I did yesterday and she picked up on it and asked why I wasn't as nice to myself??

It's just harder it seems  and a whole lot easier to do something nice for someone else, but she had a point!!
